There are a lot of Los Angeles Unlawful Detainer Attorneys out there. So picking a good attorney and differentiating between attorneys can be difficult. After being an active Los Angeles real estate attorney, I can tell you that nothing is more frustrating than being unable to speak with opposing counsel. I find that many unlawful detainer attorneys have a policy of not returning phone calls to opposing counsel and I have even heard to their own clients. Obviously, there are a bunch of good attorneys out there and these types of mills may be the exception rather than the rule.
That said, a failure to return opposing counsel’s phone call can reflect poorly on the client and can cut against the chances of negotiating a resolution. Quite simply, it is impossible to settle a case if the parties cannot talk.
So when picking an unlawful detainer attorney, picking by price is not always the wisest decision – especially if saving a few dollars winds up costing you thousands of dollars in the long run.
I suggest you ask the following questions when interviewing potential attorneys:
1. Will you be able to speak with your attorney (not a paralegal or secretary) before your trial date. If so, will it cost you extra?
2. Will you be able to meet with your attorney (not a paralegal or secretary) before your trial date. If so, will it cost you extra?
3. What steps, if any, will your attorney take to try to settle your case before trial?
4. If your case settles for trial, will that save you money?
Obviously, there are a lot more questions you should ask, but these very simple questions can help you differentiate between attorneys. For more information on a Los Angeles Unlawful Detainer Attorney, contact us at Schorr Law, 310-954-1877, info@schorr-law.com, www.schorr-law.com.
